suspect a lot of cheap plates will be for sale just before these rules come into effect, That will make it impossible for old guys to sell their legitimate plates.

Dear Mr. Moore.
l refer to the rcecnt consultation process lollowing the economic review of the SPSV industry. The Commission is now reflecting on the advice received from the Advisory Council and following the conclusion of legal considerations, regulatory impact assessments and administrative arrangements will publish details of new reforms later this year. The reforms will cover a number of areas including vehicle and driver licensing and enforcement.
One of the key concerns the industry raised during the consultation process as part of the driver licensing process was the identiiication of the county in which a taxi driver is licensed to ply or stand tor hire, The Commission has already commenced research regarding the options for the display of taxi roof signs to ascertain how the driver area could be identified upon the roof sign. The practicalities and subsequent costs in implementing such a change will be an important consideration in this process.
Once this research has been completed the results of the various options will be provided to both the Advisory Council and all industry representative bodies to seek their views. The Commission is conscious that this is a key concern to the industry and will be working closely with them to put in place appropriate signage.
Another concern raised is the recording of information on the application form for an SPSV driver licence. The Commission will consider the criteria for drivers when taking over the administration of driver licensing from An Garda Siochéna which we expect will commence in consultation with the Gardai during 2010. Note the Taxi Regulation Act 2003 rcquires amy change in the criteria for a driver licence must first be in consultation with the Gardai and the Advisory Council. The Commission will be putting proposals together to include the recording of information on the application form i.e. details of any full time employment, PPS no. etc.
With regard to enforcement the Commission continues to work with the Department of Social and Family Affairs and Revenue Commissioners regarding compliance. Details of the licence register are provided to both departments. The Commission has increased its enforcement activity with joint operations nationally with the Garda and Revenue Commissioners. This joint activity will continue on an ongoing basis. My office will be in touch with you to arrange a meeting once the new reforms for the industry have been published.
Yours sincerely,
KATHLEEN DOYLE
COMMISSIONER FOR TAXI REGULATION

Re: DRVINE AROUND OR WAIT AT RANKS FOR A FARE

I think when you register you tick a box to receive email notification. Does it not show a link on the email if you don't want to receive notifications.  There is no choice but to use ranks, but getting on them is the nightmare. floating around the city is a waste of time because of the numbers of taxis in Dublin. Every street has dozens of taxis. Chicago has a limited amount of taxis, nothing like Dublin. Throw your experience in Chicago out the window, this is dog eat dog.

Well guys I stick with what I said. but respect your opinions too. We went on strike a few years back with the Dublin unions, as soon as Dublin airport rowed back on its demands, the Dublin unions went back to work, but they told us down the country we were striking for more ranks. left us looking like idiots.
