just to give you all a update I have been to the waterford garda station 5 times
every time I go the garda is out on the beat/busy with the phones/unavailable. to day i was waiting a hour only to be told she is too busy and will be in contact with me.we shall wait and see. I will keep you posted.

I ALSO WAS ASSULTED THREE WEEKS AGO.THAT I NEEDED TO VISIT A HOSPITAL FOR CUTS AND DAMAGE TO MY EYE I WAS OUT OF WORK FOUR DAYS. THE GARDA HAVE NOT BEEN IN CONTACT AND EVERY TIME I TRY TO CONTACT THE GARDA SHE IS ON LEAVE.WHEN THE GARDA ARRIVED AT THE SCENE THEY WERE ONLY INTERESTED IN THE FARE WHICH THE GUY DID NOT HAVE THEY EVEN OFFERED TO TAKE HIM TO HIS HOME TO GET IT. WHICH HE REFUSED AND WAS ARRESTED FOR A PUBLIC ORDER ACT.HE SINCE BEEN IN ANOTHER TAXI AND TOLD THE DRIVER HE HAS FRIENDS IN THE GARDA AND NOTHING MORE WILL BE DONE ABOUT IT.ANYONE GOT ANY SUGESTIONS AS TO HOW I SHOULD PROCEED WITH THIS.PLEASE DONT ASK ME TO COMPLAIN THE GARDA. WE ALL KNOW THE CORROPTION AND I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO DRIVE IN WATERFORD AGAIN.

to be safe this season is misleading. Where you should be saying the Taxi your getting home tonight may not be insured or be driven by a person who may have been driving for the last 18 hours. Or is possible a cloned car with a learner driver. So until i know what I'm doing in this job [of which I Know nothing about] you would be just as safe to use your own car.

when is the regulator and the gay Byrne crew going to do something about the long hours drivers have to do to make a living ??. its not a matter of if but when a driver falls asleep carrying members of the public and passengers WILL die. will they wake up to this situation. we have all seen this when we have to wake up a driver to move down the rank.I would urge all drivers to email the taxi regulator and the road safety authority to ask what they are doing about this situation. and keep a copy of their email. so when it happens [AND IT WILL] they cant say they were not aware of this danger to the public.Gay Byrne's own words [A TIRED DRIVER IS AS DANGEROUS AS A DRUNK DRIVER]

Bogus taxi roof signs can be bought widely around Dublin city by people who don't have a taxi licence, a taxi drivers union leader has told the Herald.The National Taxi Drivers Union (NTDU) says the signs, which are the key symbol of identification for taxi cabs, can be bought in some Dublin shops for just a few hundred euro, without professional taxi identification."Anybody can buy a taxi sign for €200. They don't ask who you are," says Tommy Gorman, President of the NTDU. "There are eight outlets around Dublin selling these taxi signs."

Mr Gorman says that he was outraged after he himself bought a sign without hassle."I told them I had a driver on the M50 who was in a crash and a truck driver drove over the taxi sign and destroyed it."They told me it'd be ready in an hour for €200. They're selling signs and you require no ID to buy them," he said."It's an unfortunate thing. God knows what's going on."Mr Gorman says he was amazed that not even other taxi drivers at ranks noticed when the signs he bought had the exact same licence numbers."I bought two taxi plates with the same number and we paraded them around Dublin, one of them on a private car, and no one noticed."

Mr Gorman says the issue is a huge concern because the sign is such an important symbol for the public when they attempt to hail a taxi, adding that the taxi driver's ID card, placed before the passenger seat of the car, does not give the unwitting public enough notice as to whether the driver is licensed or not. "You don't hail the ID on the front of the car, you hail the sign. The public need to be protected because they're in danger. "When you get into a taxi, find out if the taxi driver can produce an official receipt at the end of the taxi journey."It seems extreme, but the sign could be stolen," he added."The taxi driver must be able to print out an official receipt by law," he added.

The NTDU president stressed that he is concerned about the lack of enforcement with regard to taxi signage: "The taxi regulator has its own enforcers. Eight is not sufficient, along with a senior enforcer. How can you protect the public with this amount of enforcers and 26,000 taxi drivers? It's an impossibility".Meanwhile, the Commission for Taxi Regulation has said that each licensed taxi, hackney and limousine has a "tamper proof disc on its front and rear windows confirming the vehicle" "This disc is fitted by the National Car Testing Service as part of the licensing process," said a spokesperson, who added that they, "along with the Gardai, carry out regular checks on vehicles at taxi ranks across the country".

as you all know by now the money is not there to support the number of taxis. we in waterford are now thinking of signing on for 4 days a week and only working weekends we cant compete with the back to work payments paid to some taxi drivers. As for blameing our coloured fellow taxi drivers for the situation we are now in. The blame rests with the scum black legs who sent a clear message to the gardi taxi regulator and the councils no matter what you do us scumbags black legs will work no matter what you do to the industry.
