Ireland as an entire country has a smaller population than most British or American Cities, yet Dublin with a population of just over 1.5 million has more Taxi's than New York with a population of 19,306,183. In most other countries in Europe there are high standards in their Taxi Industries, In Ireland the only requirement is you have a full license, even if you got it yesterday. Other countries demand that you are over 25 years old, held a full driving license for at least three years. That the applicant has passed a fitness test a vetting check by police. In Ireland emigrants from out side the state don't even have their records checked in their countries of origin and you can drive a Taxi an hour after passing a test, yet in other countries you still would not even be allowed to drive on a motorway.
