Gardai investigating the robberies of a number of taxi drivers in the north Dublin arrested a man in early May. The Blanchardstown Crime Task Force and local officers were involved in the arrest that took place at a checkpoint in Finglas. A Garda representative said after the arrest: "Just after midnight Garda personnel saw a taxi turning away from a checkpoint they had put in place on the Rathoath Road and arrested its 27-year-old male fare. A syringe was also recovered." Gardai are holding the man under Section IV of the Criminal Justice Act at Blanchardstown Garda Station. Thomas Joyce (27) of Dunsink Campsite, in Finglas, north Dublin, is facing nine charges over the alleged hold-ups that took place during a two-week period. The waves of attacks all around Dunsink Lane and Rathoth Road north Dublin started in the middle of April. They included the robbery of more than €600 in cash, several mobile phones and a satellite navigation system.
