There has not been a single development in the taxi industry that has benefited Disabled users, Indeed if anything things have got considerably worse, the amount of assessable vehicles on Ireland's streets is actually going downward. To add to this the type of vehicle being used now will no longer be accepted as a wheelchair taxi and its replacement will cost as much a €10,000 more insuring that there will be even fewer taxis capable of offering a service to those with disabilities. I don't know what representatives of disabled groups are achieving on the taxi commission, but rather like union bosses its seems to be vanity and notoriety that keeps them on the commission because it certainly is not results.

the whole industry has become a farce.it appears the industry is being used to keep the social welfare numbers down while realistcly long serving drivers will be forced to sign on .Anybody in their right mind will not invest in new taxis ,espically new wheelchair vehicles. 2 + 2 dont make 5 and KATHLEEN its time you resigned. you have failed this industry and as long as you are in office you will destroy it even further.

Here is a copy of an e mail I sent to the regulator let me know what you all think

Hi I am just wondering if the cost of having our meters recalibrated will decrease now that the NCT is taking over this area. The reason i pose this question is that the charge is outrageous at present and a full explanation of how these charges were formulated should be presented to the commission. I feel that the manner in which the commission decides upon fare increases for Taxi Drivers should be applied in this case in an effort to evaluate if the charges represent value for money. If you can give me a reasonable explanation for the current charges I would be very grateful as I intend to take this matter further. I fail to understand why any agency acting on behalf of Legal Metrology or the Taxi Regulator cannot make the necessary changes to a meter. It has been suggested by Legal Metrology that there are many different types of meters and therefore they cannot be expected to know the workings of them all. This is utter nonsense if this company cannot calibrate the meters they should not be allowed verify the calibration as they openly admit they do not have sufficient knowledge of all meters. I feel that this fare increase is nonsense and any percentage gas already been lost in the last two years coupled with the constant rises in running costs. Hopefully you can respond in a genuine matter that addresses my concerns and please as a matter of courtesy do not send me a generic reply i have asked specific questions and would request specific answers. As you can appreciate this is my job, it is a huge part of my life I don't have the luxury of a job for life with sick pay and pensions all I have is this Taxi and the way things are going I wont have that for long so I would really appreciate some answers before I am forced to pay these exorbitant charges again.

Yours Sincerely
Frankie Mangan.

I would doubt it very much, they probabably only took it on because they got the money the wanted for it like the sutability test. What did you have to pay to have the software put in your meter, I hear hale are only 60 my cygnus is fucking 75 euro

Well franky did you get a reply yet, she is not very good and answering questions. I sent her a few emails myself and the answers always far from satasfactory. While listening to the joe duffy show (which you can hear in the podcast catagory on this site) I was surprised to hear that the meters software we are currently opperating had an end life after two years.  So while she was fecking about asking the public should the fare stay the same, In reality it couldn't because the software had to be amended . We were hardy going to pay to calabrate out meter to stay at the same fare. She is not only guilty of misleading the public but of gross incompitance. In effect she was a secretary to Mr Deering or the fancy name manager of opperations, hardly qualified to do the job, but the government couldn't find anyone to fill the post initially and weren't going to go looking again, so we got landed with an incompitant and clearly unsutable person for the job. If there were prepared to give her that job knowing that she wasn' qualified enough to do it, Its hardly surprising, Nct staff have just become qualified in weights and measures . A joke 1.6 million will be paid out to no more than 10 individuals chipping Hale, Cygnus and taxitronic meters and 2 million to seal the meters. When Bobby Melloy said there would be no more taxi driver millionaires, They forgot to mention plenty of others would become millionaires on the backs of taxi drivers.

here is a copy of a email I sent to the regulator..................your advertisment in the media urging people to use taxis and leave the car at home
to be safe this season is misleading. Where you should be saying the Taxi your getting home tonight may not be insured or be driven by a person who may have been driving for the last 18 hours. Or is possible a cloned car with a learner driver. So until i know what I'm doing in this job [of which I Know nothing about] you would be just as safe to use your own car.
